I'm pretty sure Americans haven't undergone any significant evolutionary divergence from the rest of Europe in the 300 or so years they've been a proper nation. Americans have the same evolutionary hang ups as Europeans.

I can only speak from my own experience as a Brit (still technically European) but around here we don't smile like the yanks because it comes across as disingenuous and because we're a bit more conservative with our emotions.
