How COVID-19 Forced Me To Start My Dream Job

Like so many others, the pandemic left me jobless. But thanks to a talent for content writing, I landed on my feet.

The pandemic has been responsible for countless upturned lives, with the luckiest of us only having been affected financially, though many have suffered physical and emotional stress, or lost loved ones. In my case, the onset of coronavirus brought with it an end to my employment as a welder.

Now, I’d be lying if I said I enjoyed my work; it was just something I was good at. Nevertheless, I have a mortgage to pay, a child to feed, bills and, yes, a certain amount of debt to my name. It was a less than ideal situation.

At the time this happened, the UK government’s furlough system — where the government would cover 80% of employees wages during the pandemic — was still a week away. It was also unclear if there would even be a company to furlough me by the time that happened. In other words, asking them to keep me on under the furlough system wasn’t an option.

I didn’t panic at first. I felt the panic — it was definitely there — but I ignored it for the time being. My employer had offered to pay me to the end of the month (about a week away) but let me finish then, presumably to go job hunting. So I…
